Five first job tips
- Don't "fake it until you make it." Many new workers try to appear more knowledgeable than they really are. They don't ask questions.
- Never eat lunch alone.
- Set boundaries to prevent burnout.
- Serve your colleagues and customers.
- Work hard and show up on time.
With some time, you will have experienced that first big feeling of being on your own. For most of us our first job was an awkward start to learning how responsibilities come with taking the person on the other side's feelings into consideration.
For some, this can also be a frightening awakening. No more hand-holding through classes or lecturers to balance out what they do not understand or are unsure about. It is up to you to really figure life out by yourself, only with the slightest hint of assistance from your family members and what not.
You only had one job
A phrase used to express one's frustration that someone or something has failed at the main or sole task they were responsible for, especially when that task seems very easy or fundamental.
